  5.     TV Marti, the U.S.-funded plan to bombard Cuba with
  6. seditious American news and entertainment shows, began its
  7. three-month $7.5 million test last week, broadcasting from
  8. Florida to the few insomniacs awake in Havana when the signal
  9. came in at 1:30 a.m. Within minutes, jammers blocked TV Marti's
  10. signal, denying Havana the delights of a Spanish-dubbed Kate
  11. & Allie sitcom, World Series reruns, a Spanish game show called
  12. La Feria de la Alegria (The Happiness Fair) and MTV music
  13. videos.

  15.     President Fidel Castro denounced the broadcasts as
  16. "subversive" and a violation of Cuban sovereignty. But rather
  17. than jamming TV Marti, his best revenge might be to broadcast
  18. his own long-winded speeches into the U.S. A recent blast from
  19. Cuba was heard on radios as far away as Nashville.
